Now that I’ve been introduced to crocheting animals (also known as amigurumi) I kinda can’t get enough! Making toys is really a dream of mine. I’m not a sewist and never could get the hang of making really cute felt animals. It really wasn’t until my first crocheted bunny that I found the kind of toy I could be good at making. Now mind you, it ain’t easy. It takes a lot of time, patience, and understanding of crochet patterns. The hardest part I’ve found is the sewing the pieces together. Making them “seamless” looking, while still strongly put together is so hard. I feel like I could use a class just on that!
Anyway, Etsy has been my best friend. I’ve been searching it high and low for cute crocheted patterns. I landed on Petit Remy’s shop last week. She makes really cute patterns that didn’t look as time intensive and something this somewhat beginner could tackle, so I purchased her Benny the bear, her Benny the Bunny, and her heart patterns. I finished the Benny Bear today and just love it!
If you want a beginner-friendly project, well-written pattern, by someone who clearly knows how to crochet a cute animal – I highly recommend Petit Remy – and, no, I’m not being paid to write this review, nor did I even receive the pattern for free. I just love it this much!
I decided to make mine with a pretty multi-colored cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby, safety eyes, and a yellow yarn for the nose.
These are the terms you’ll need to be familiar with in order to complete the pattern:
Abbreviations:
st – stitch(es)
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (two single crochet in the same stitch)
dec – decrease (single crocheting 2 stitches together)
R – round
MC – main colour
AC – accent colour
I plan to make several for a charity for kids with Lyme disease, including a few of the Benny Bunny pattern as well. They whip up fairly quickly and would be great to give to charity’s, friend’s children, or even to sell (she says you can sell the items you make from her patterns but you must give her site credit).
Pop over to her website to purchase the pattern for yourself.
